The Porridge Bowl, John Neilson Institution

Notes on the Architect/Designer

Charles Wilson (1810-63) was architect. Affectionately known by Paisley Buddies as "The Porridge Bowl" the building is a landmark, dominating the Paisley skyline. The sculpture is by Scottish sculptor, Sandy Stoddart and shows Diogenes wielding a porridge bowl! Wilson, a prolific architect, executed other works in Paisley, Rouken Glen, Bridge of Weir, Greenock and throughout the west of Scotland.
